APPLICATIONS

Ulano Platinum is a SBQ-photopolymer direct emulsion suited for imprinted sportswear and plastisol inks. Composed with anti-halation properties, this features allows Ulano Platinum to be used together with inexpensive white mesh without sacrificing fine details. With a high viscosity, Ulano Platinum can even be printed on coarse mesh.



PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

  • High (an average 42%) solids content allows Ulano Platinum to dry quickly and bind better to mesh for more defined lines and edges

  • Significantly durable composure allows for humidity-resistance even in humidity

  • Resistant to aggressive post-phthalate plastisols and most wash-up solvents

  • Ulano Platinum can be used in auto-reclaim systems and becomes water-based and discharge inks when mix with diazo



INSTRUCTIONS FOR HANDLING & USE

Ulano Platinum should only be coated and handled under yellow safelight to avoid pre-exposure.


Sensitizing:

Ulano Platinum is a presensitized and premixed emulsion for plastisol inks. This means, you will not have to add additional sensitizer before use.


Mesh Preparation:

A used screen or surface treated fabric will only need to be degreased using mesh prep or a screen degreaser including Magic Mesh Prep, Screen Degreaser Liquid No. 3 or Screen Degreaser Concentrate No. 33. If you are using a brand new screen that is not surface treated, you can use an abraser. This will help for a better mechanical bond of your stencil as well as a longer printing run. To combine abrading and degreasing, use Ulano UlanoGel No. 23.  Then, rinse the screen with water.  


Coating Procedure:

There are three correct ways to coat Ulano Platinum.

  • Method 1: Apply one coat to the printing side and one coat to the squeegee side. Dry the screen completely.

  • Method 2: Apply two coats to the printing side, and two coats to the squeegee side. After each coating, rotate your screen 180°

  • Method 3: Perform Method 2, then once you have completely dried your screen, apply an additional two coats to the printing side.



Drying:  

Multi Coated Screens (Method 2 & 3) must be dried horizontally, printing side down and at room temperature. If you use a commercial fan to speed up the drying time, only use filtered air up to 104° F (40° C). A dehumidifier should also be used during the process.


Exposure:

Exposure time is dependent on the type of light source you are using, the wattage and which method you are choosing to coat your screen (see above in Coating Procedure Section for more information). Exposure times below for Ulano Platinum are used in reference for 120 threads/cm. (305/in.) white polyester or nylon at 100cm. (40 in.) exposure distance.

  • 110 amps: 18 sec (Coating Method 1), 55 sec (Coating Method 2), 73 sec (Coating Method 3)

Metal Halide

  • 1000 watts: 30 sec (Coating Method 1), 82 sec (Coating Method 2), 112 sec (Coating Method 3)

  • 2000 watts: 15 sec (Coating Method 1), 41 sec (Coating Method 2), 56 sec (Coating Method 3)

  • 3000 watts: 10 sec (Coating Method 1), 27 sec (Coating Method 2), 36 sec (Coating Method 3)

  • 4000 watts: 8 sec (Coating Method 1), 21 sec (Coating Method 2), 27 sec (Coating Method 3)

Washout

Ulano Platinum does not need an automated washout equipment to be thoroughly cleaned. After exposure, make sure to wet both sides of the screen with a gentle amount of cold water. Spray the printing side until clear, then rinse both sides with a gentle spray until you remove the emulsion from the squeegee side. No foam or bubbles should be present. Excess water on the printing side can be blotted with unprinted newspaper.


Reclaiming

In order to reclaim your screen, you can use Eco-Wash 160, All-Purpose Ink Wash or an alternative, less powerful ink diluent. This will help remove excess ink from the screen. Use Ulano Screen Degreaser Liquid No. 3 to remove ink and solvent residues. If you use a stencil remover, do not let it dry on the screen. Rinse both sides of your screen thoroughly gently, then a more powerful spray of water as necessary.  



INSTRUCTIONS FOR STORAGE:

Your Ulano Platinum can last up to 18 months when properly stored and unused. For coated screens, the expiration can range anywhere up to 4 weeks at 20 - 25°C, but it must be in total darkness. Factors such as humidity or temperature can cause your Ulano Platinum to expire earlier.


Extending the Life of Your Emulsion

  • Keep Ulano Platinum in a cool, dry area for optimal use.

  • Ulano Platinum must be ept away from temperature or humidity, seeing that heat will break down the components of the emulsion faster.

  • Make sure to keep the lid to your Ulano Platinum on tightly. This way no air or light leakage will occur.
