Ulano Blue is a ready-to-use emulsion with fast exposure rates. It is formulated to work well with imprinted sportswear. Ulano Blue is exceptionally easy to reclaim in automatic equipment or by hand. It is especially efficient in shops that need high stencil making throughout and has a high viscosity that improves control when coating screens by hand.
Blue Direct Emulsion
It resists plastisol ink (including newer, more aggressive, post-phthalate plastisols) and most washup solvents
Efficient with fixed or scanning LED units, as well as with fluorescent tubes or other low-intensity light sources
Will not become tacky under high humidity conditions, have excellent wet strength
Great mesh bridging (especially coarse mesh) and high durability
Shelf life: unopened, 1 year at 70º F. (21º C.)
INSTRUCTIONS FOR HANDLING & USE
Ulano Blue should only be handled under yellow safelights conditions.
Ulano Blue is fully presensitized and is ready for immediate use without the addition of a sensitizer.
Before applying Ulano Blue to your screens, make sure your mesh is free from any contamination, residual ink or regular dirt and dust. To assist you in mesh prep, Garston offers numerous degreasers and haze or ghost removers to help prepare your screens. These include:
Autotype CPS Degreaser Concentrate
There are 3 methods to carry out the coating procedure for Ulano Blue.
Method 1: Apply one coat of emulsion on the printing side, then one coat on the squeegee side. Dry the screen thoroughly.
Method 2: Apply two coats on the printing side, then two coats on the squeegee side, wet-on-wet. After each coating, rotate the screen 180°.
Method 3: Follow Method 2. Then, after drying the screen, apply two additional coats on the printing side, wet-on-wet.
In order to properly dry the coated screen, it must be kept horizontally with the print side down. A clean, light-safe area is essential for proper drying. You may use a screen-drying cabinet with heated airflow to maintain ideal conditions.
Prior to exposure, you should clean the film positives and vacuum frame glass in order to minimize pinholes. Exposure is affected by mesh color, emulsion type, coating thickness, lamp type, and the age of the bulb. Below is a list of suggested exposure times for a 305 thread/in (120 c/m) white polyester or nylon at 40 in (100 cm).
1000 watts: 17 sec (Coating Method 1), 43 sec (Coating Method 2), 60 sec (Coating Method 3)
2000 watts: 9 sec (Coating Method 1), 22 sec (Coating Method 2), 30 sec (Coating Method 3)
3000 watts: 5 sec (Coating Method 1), 15 sec (Coating Method 2), 19 sec (Coating Method 3)
4000 watts: 4 sec (Coating Method 1), 11 sec (Coating Method 2), 15 sec (Coating Method 3)
5000 watts: 3 sec (Coating Method 1), 9 sec (Coating Method 2), 12 sec (Coating Method 3)
For the washout, gently spray both sides of the screen with cold water, waiting a few seconds to allow the emulsion to soften. Then, forcefully wash the print side of the screen until the image is fully clear. When the image is ready, rinse both sides thoroughly and dry, so that no soft emulsion or foam bubbles are left. We recommend the use of fans or a drying cabinet in order to dry the screen. For developing the screen, use a pressure washer on fan spray.
Use lukewarm water on both sides of your screen before transitioning to a screen cleaner. least powerful ink diluent necessary, to remove all ink remaining in the screen. The screen cleaner will remove excess ink as well as remnants of hazing or ghosting if needed. While you are in the washout process, let the emulsion soak into your screen and soften. After, wash both sides of the screen again with lukewarm water until the image has disappeared.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR STORAGE:
Ulano Blue is best stored in a cool, dry area. This pre-sensitized emulsion has a minimum one year shelf life when stored at room temperature. For best results, use Ulano Blue within one year, and store it at around 70º F (21º C).
Extending the Life Of Your Emulsion:
Heat will break down the components of your Ulano Blue. Keep it in a cool area to make it last longer. Temperature and humidity can also speed up the expiration date of your Ulano Blue if not properly noted.
Avoid air or light leaks by keeping the lid to your Ulano Blue tightly closed.
Keep track of every use by adding a last used date to your container.
